The South Tyrolean tradition par excellence in autumn and particularly authentic in the midst of our own vineyard:

"Törggelen"

Here at the Martscholer Weinhof, you can experience the origins of "Törggelen". Whether in our pine-tree parlor or on our sun-drenched terrace, let's celebrate this tradition together. From August to November, you are cordially invited to join us for a "Törggele" celebration.

We will treat you to traditional farm dishes such as a "Marende" (bacon, cheese, Kaminwurzen), "Schlachtplatte" (sour meat, sauerkraut, homemade sausage, plattler, potatoes), barley soup, "Schlutzkrapfen", sweet doughnuts and roasted chestnuts.

To complement the festivities, we serve a variety of wines from our own production and numerous homemade juices.

Our farmhouse parlor can accommodate 50 guests, and weather permitting, you can enjoy the terrace or garden.

What is a "Buschenschank"?

The name "Buschenschank" comes from an old tradition of rural inns hanging a "Buschen" (bouquet) above their entrance doors during opening hours. Although the bouquet is rarely used today, the name has stuck.

Where does "Törggelen" come from?

Törggelen is also called "the fifth season." The term derives from the Latin "torculum," which means "press" in German. This refers to the wine press, called a "Torggl."

Here in the Eisack Valley, "Törggelen" dates back to an ancient bartering practice. Farmers in the valleys would drive some of their cattle to the mountain pastures during the summer. In return, they would invite their guests to a farmer's feast and serve their new wine. This tradition arose from this cozy get-together.

Törggele-Queen

Every traditional festival should be crowned and for this reason the adventure holiday area of Klausen, Barbian, Villanders and Feldthurns also has its own queen. And in the home of Törggelen, she is known as the Törggele Queen. (in the picture below our Evi as Törggele Queen 2018/19)

Every year during the Gassltörggelen Festival, the highlight of the Törggele saison, a new Törggele Queen is crowned. In order to perform the duties of this respectable position a few things are essential: the knowledge of the territory and the tradition of Törggelen as well as of the three main specialties of Eisacktal/Valle Isarco, that are chestnus , damson plums and grapes . Every Törggele Queen is a very good ambassador and proudly lives this ancient tradition.
